Brett Christen is a partner in the firm practising in all areas of labour and employment law. Brett regularly represents private sector clients in manufacturing, transportation, retail, information technology, business services and other sectors. In the public sector, Brett has represented municipalities, utilities, hospitals, railways and federal and provincial Crown corporations.

Brett was called to the Ontario bar in 1990, became a partner of the firm in 1996 and subsequently spent several years on the firm’s management and finance committees. In 1998, Brett was certified as a Specialist in Labour Law by the Law Society of Upper Canada.

In addition to frequently representing employers in collective bargaining negotiations, Brett has appeared as counsel for employers in hundreds of proceedings before federal and provincial labour boards, arbitration boards, various other employment-related administrative tribunals, and the courts.

Brett also routinely works closely with employers to help them develop innovative strategies for dealing with complex labour relations problems including corporate restructurings and issues relating to “related employers.” Brett is a past Associate Eastern Editor of the Canadian Labour Relations Board Reports, the co-author of the Carswell publication, “Canada Labour Code: Quick Reference Guide,” and often speaks on topical labour and employment matters to employer groups and lawyers. Brett is listed in Best Lawyers in Canada and Martindale-Hubbell’s List of Distinguished Peer Rated Lawyers.

Brett articled with the firm in 1988 after attending St. Mary’s University and Dalhousie Law School in Halifax.
