Madelena’s practice covers all areas of labour and employment law, with a particular focus on employment litigation, corporate governance, occupational health and safety, and human rights matters.
Madelena provides advice and representation to employers on a full range of workplace issues. She is a practical and effective advocate, and provides knowledgeable advice to employers on all aspects of the employment relationship. She has experience drafting and reviewing employment policies and has successfully represented clients in the courts and in front of boards and tribunals on a variety of employment matters.
Prior to joining the firm, Madelena articled and worked as an associate lawyer at a full service law firm in Toronto where she gained experience in labour and employment law, as well as commercial and civil litigation.
During her time at Western Law, Madelena assisted with various volunteer initiatives put on by the Community Outreach Committee, mentored incoming students, helped to facilitate a more inclusive orientation week program, co-chaired the Social Committee and was an executive member of Level, Gender and the Law Association, as well as Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights. Upon graduation, Madelena was awarded the David C. Scott Memorial Award for her contributions to Western Law and the larger London community.
