Marina Schellenberg

Executive Summary

Marina joined the firm as an associate in 2019. Marina is originally from Alberta where she began her career articling and practicing with a large national firm. She also worked as an in-house labour lawyer with Alberta Health Services.

Marina practises in all areas of labour and employment law, acting for a wide variety of union and non-union clients.

She has acted as counsel in labour arbitration hearings, wrongful dismissal hearings, and employment litigation matters in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto, Hamilton, London, Stratford, and Brantford. She has also appeared in the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, and the Court of Appeal of Alberta. Marina has also defended and advised on a number of human rights complaints in Ontario and Alberta.

Marina is proficient in providing legal advice relating to workplace accommodations, corporate policies, drug and alcohol policies, employment contracts, bargaining language, employee benefits and insurance issues, and disciplinary investigations and proceedings. She also has experience with professional medical associations and colleges relating to healthcare professionals. 

Marina has experience working with highly unionized organizations and companies, including organizations with multiple bargaining units. She has acted as counsel in labour arbitrations and was lead counsel in a precedent-setting proceeding before the Alberta Labour Relations Board, addressing new legislative changes to marshalling procedures under the Alberta Labour Relations Code. She has also acted as a nominee in grievance hearings.

Marina also has experience conducting and advising on workplace investigations in various industries, including health care, education, construction, rail,  and transportation. She also has on-site experience administering and coordinating mass lay-offs of non-unionized temporary workers in the auto manufacturing sector.
